Randy Engle began writing software in 1989 as a custom developer.
A water utility client in Northern California required a system to track their rather extensive backflow prevention program, which was being done on 3x5 cards up to that point. Randy was encouraged by the people at this organization that there existed a commercial need for such a program. After another 3 years of working on a custom basis, and handling way too many different types of projects, Randy decided that he wanted to do one thing really well. "I had no idea how big and popular backflow prevention was at this point", cites Randy. After a year of development (he threw out the first version that he wrote for the client, and just saved the knowledge), working 40 hours a week as a custom developer to pay the bills, and another 40 hours a week working on this new project, XC2 version 1.0.0 was released and the first installation was performed in 1997. "Our customers and contacts were just great in helping us in the design of XC2. So many people were freely forthcoming with input so we could make our product robust, flexible, configurable and easy to use. My hat is off to all!" It hasn't stopped being this way through the current day. The rest is history. 12 years later, XC2 Software has well over 500 installations and is well known and actively participating in the backflow prevention and "FOG" abatement communities. "Our staff is great, everyone is dedicated and always learning." Randy Engle is a native of Southern California, and currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area, as he has for over 35 years. "I love the trees, hills, summertime fog and all around great climate. Where I live has a true 'laissez faire' attitude and I thrive in it. Being an hour away from Sonoma/Napa wine country doesn't hurt either." In his "spare" time, Randy loves to hike in the wooded hills of Marin County, play piano and music synthesizers, and when he gets real inspired will pick up a paintbrush and canvas. As well, a really nice cabernet goes with all of the above. Randy is married and has a fabulous daughter in her second year at the University of California at Berkeley. |
